History & Culture

Union City's identity grew from Union Hill and West Hoboken, immigration, embroidery and textile manufacturing, and a long performing-arts tradition. Cuban immigration beginning in the 1950s profoundly shaped Bergenline Avenue and the city's culture; later arrivals from throughout Latin America broadened that identity.
